Welcome to the territory of the Comunità Montana Val di Cecina.
One doesn't ever finish to discover the city and it's surrounding area, there is always something new and particularly suggestive in this territory. Maybe it would be better to say dense and meaningful. Here, runs solidly history without solution of continuity from one epoch to another; one can sense it in the material life walking down the street as it appears in literary memories and artistic manifestations. It is told with abundance in the different museums.
With its relative inaccessibility Volterra has preserved her beauty and her mysteriousness. The impressive etruscan walls have lead to the maintaining of the medieval plan of the city, steep streets and narrow stone houses. The city has been dominated for centuries her surroundings, from her impressive window of the Viale dei Ponti, the eye sweeping from north to east first perceives a slice of the Tirreno sea, then all around a crown of small towns radicated on the hills and finally toward the south rivers of the boraciferous area which seem pointing white towards the sky, after the metallic serpents piped them to the geothermoelectric plants and refrigerant towers.
From every part, after the hallucination of the white land of Poggi Morti, shows an extraordinary vegetation, an immense green lung to the sea between the fading hills. It's easy to imagine what is the wealth of the flora and the fauna. A territory structured like this cannot but have an enogastronomy that of high quality, a cuisine that is defined as 'poor' as a way of saying, is in reality food delicacies, mushrooms, truffles, game, sheep's milk cheese and prestigious DOC wines. This web site has the objective of getting us closer to discovering the suggestive aspects of this territory.
